Adam Smith goes on and on in naming all the different work activities involved into the manufacture of the worker's simple wool coat. He mentions the merchants, carriers, the commerce, navigation, ship builders, sailors, sail makers, rope makers and he concludes that if we were to examine, in the same manner, all different parts of his dress and household furniture, we shall be sensible that without the co-operation of many thousands, the meanest person in a civilized country could not be provided even to the easy and simple manner in which he is commonly accommodated. At this point the worker is naked and all he has is an apple and a leaf given by nature. This ends chapter one.
